Decade wrap-up

It’s 2020, if you haven’t noticed yet and what better way to kick off new year and new decade by writing a totally cliche decade wrap-up post. I know, what you’re all thinking, another one of those weird posts, filled with Spotify links and playlists. I did consider it for a while and then it hit me. I wanted to do something different, reaching the depths of my memory, focusing on the albums that kind of shaped each year of the last decade for me. It doesn’t mean I only listen to one album the whole year, I’m not a freak, but those are just he reminders of how I felt back then.

Songs of 2016

This year was like a crazy roller-coaster, giving the lemons and when you tried to make a lemon juice out of it, it splashed into your eyes. Yes, we did it, we managed to survive. We have lost idols, the war took a lot of lives and it seems like the world is crushing all around us. There’s silver lining – music.

To end this year with a positive post, I will just drop the ten of my favorite songs of 2016.

10. Bring me the horizon – Follow you

9. Panic at the disco – Don’t threaten me with a good time

8. Billy – Love don’t break me

7. Elliphant – Where is Home

6. Bastille – Send them Off!

5. Daughter – No care

4. You me at six – Swear

3. Zara Larsson – Ain’t my fault

2. Biffy Clyro – Howl

1. Mo – Final Song

Since this year was really tough, I have a couple more songs to share with you.

Biffy Clyro – Rearange

Mo – Drum

Major Lazer – Cold water

How music can change a point of view

This year was full of ups and downs, but filled with live music. To know me a bit more, I need to tell you, I was always afraid of crowds. So much so I was not attending any big events. First concert I attended (I’m not talking about the small “accidental” ones) in 2014, being 23. I decided to go big, bought a regular ticket for 30 Seconds to Mars, then an upgrade for a soundcheck and that was basically it. No golden circle, just a “regular Joe” ticket. Being alone in a huge crowd gave me a perspective (after I stopped hyperventilating and calmed myself down). In 2015 I attended only one concert, Royal Blood. It was a slightly smaller event, but it was worth it.

My only new year’s resolution was to see more live music and finally live the life I should. And I have to say, I did it. There are still almost 2 months to go, but I lived this year, I really did.

Beginning of the year I saw Kodaline, then Elliphant. In early June, for the first time ever, I went to a music festival. I got the chance to see Die Antwoord, Tom Odell, Skrillex, MO and Daughter. Couple of weeks later I attended Bring me the Horizon concert. In October me and a friend decided to see MO again, same month I went alone to see Biffy Clyro. Scots were the best of all I saw till now, but all of the concerts were a huge deal for me.

And most importantly, I know I lived.
